NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING - NLP
NLP is the study of the structure of subjective experience and human excellence
N Neuro The mind-body and how it works
L Linguistic The language we use to describe and make sense of our world
P Programming Positive and negative repeating patterns of thought and behaviour
NLP presupposes that as we make sense of our world, we interpret our experiences consciously and unconsciously to create our models of reality. We then operate in the world on the basis of our models, rather than on reality itself.
NLP has a number of explicit presuppositions, which may or may not be true, but are a useful basis for viewing the world: -
We create our own reality
We get what we concentrate on
We have within us the resources we need to achieve what we want
Our behavioural is purposeful
We are doing the best we can and we could probably do better
All behaviour is useful in some context
Choice is better than no choice
The meaning of a communication is the response it elicits
There is no failure, only feedback
Each person has their own unique model of reality, and as they are operating from within that model they are always right
Many coaching principles are under pinned by NLP theory. NLP techniques are particularly helpful to shift perspectives and long held limiting beliefs.
